After a year of uncertainty and adaptation to the new reality due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Venezuelan Camp Association (ASOVENCAMP) and its members, assumed the challenge of opening their doors again to bring joy and magic to children who need it today more than ever.
Now that summer is over and kids are going back to school, we can say that We Did It! We managed to bring the essence of camp back to all campers: being in contact with other children and teenagers while having fun; guided by professionals in a safe and healthy environment, with mostly outdoors activities and complying with the appropriate guidelines that the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and other public health authorities still recommend.
The outcome was positive, however, the challenge was huge and the pressure that we faced as an organization due to the inherent risks that COVID-19 presents, were not easy. Many were the barriers that we had to overcome.
In Venezuela, we face a reality: parents are eager to have their children return to their beloved camps and to rediscover the profound bonds they have with them. The unique sense of belonging that characterizes camp life and that makes the year worthwhile for the sole illusion of returning to that magical place, where everything is joy, friendship and fun, where all campers are capable of developing the best version of themselves, is priceless. Summer camp: the place where no one judges you and where friends and memories are forever.
On the other hand, Parents were torn between a mixture of joy and fear for the new situation we are facing. They asked a lot of questions about the new model proposed: what would the biosafety protocols look like? Is the use of masks mandatory? What steps will you take in the event that a staff member or camper tests Positive for COVID-19? … the list was long, and the challenge was enormous.
The questions and difficult situation faced by the different camps that belongs to ASOVENCAMP were multiple and varied, but we assumed the commitment with courage and integrity; the well-being of our campers and staff always prevailed above all, and once again, we achieved our goals with the sensation of a job well done, making ASOVENCAMP stronger in difficult times, thus demonstrating the great family that we are.
The pandemic changed us all forever, but summer camps, with their transforming effect, took care of returning a smile to so many homes, and once again, ASOVENCAMP’s premise of preserving and ensuring the camp experience while creating a meaningful impact in our community, in a healthy and safe environment, became a reality
The countdown to see each other again in 2022, begins!
Después de un año de incertidumbre y adecuación a la nueva realidad producto de la pandemia mundial del COVID-19, los campamentos miembros de la Asociación Venezolana de Campamentos (ASOVENCAMP) asumieron el reto de abrir nuevamente sus puertas para llevar alegría y magia a tantos niños que lo necesitan hoy más que nunca.
Ahora que el verano terminó y que el regreso a clases parece ser una realidad, podemos decir ¡Lo Logramos! Pudimos devolverles a nuestros campistas la esencia del campamento: el contacto con otros niños y adolescentes en sana diversión, guiados de la mano de profesionales en un ambiente seguro, con actividades mayormente al aire libre y cumpliendo los protocolos de seguridad adecuados y recomendados por los organismos especialistas en las normas de bioseguridad que deben aplicarse dadas las circunstancias.
El balance fue positivo, sin embargo el reto fue inmenso y las presiones a que nos vimos sometidos como gremio debido a los riesgos inherentes que representa el COVID-19 no fueron fáciles. Muchas fueron las barreras que tuvimos que vencer.
En Venezuela, específicamente, nos enfrentamos a una población deseosa de que los niños volvieran a vivir una relativa normalidad y reencontrarse con el sello de cada campamento que llevan en el corazón; ese sentido de pertenencia que nos caracteriza como campamentos y que hacen que el año valga la pena por la sola ilusión de regresar a ese lugar mágico, donde todo es alegría y diversión, donde todos los campistas son capaces de desarrollar la mejor versión de sí mismos. Ese lugar donde nadie te juzga y donde los amigos y los recuerdos son para siempre.
Los padres y representantes deseaban con todas sus fuerzas que los niños regresaran al campamento, pero se debatían entre una mezcla de alegría y temor por la nueva situación a la que nos enfrentamos. Hacían preguntas sobre el nuevo modelo planteado, cómo serían los protocolos de bioseguridad? Es obligatorio el uso de mascarillas? Qué medidas tomarán en el caso de que un miembro del staff o un campista resulte Positivo al COVID-19?… la lista fue larga, y el reto enorme.
Fueron múltiples y variadas las preguntas y las situaciones tan difíciles a que nos enfrentamos los distintos campamentos que formamos la ASOVENCAMP, pero lo importante es que asumimos el compromiso con valentía e integridad, que siempre prevaleció el bienestar de nuestros campistas y staff por encima de todo y que una vez más, salimos airosos y satisfechos por la misión cumplida, por habernos apoyado como institución en momento difíciles, demostrando así la gran familia que somos.
La pandemia nos cambió a todos para siempre, pero los campamentos, con su efecto transformador, nos encargamos de devolverle la sonrisa a tantos hogares, cumpliendo así una vez más con la premisa de ASOVENCAMP de preservar y velar por la experiencia campamentil, creando un impacto significativo en su comunidad en un ambiente sano y enriquecedor.
